14 Amazing Digital Marketing Tools You Need to Use (Part 1)

Check out our expertly compiled list of 14 tools, sorted by categories for easy understanding.

The Role of a Digital Marketer

Digital marketers have an important role to play in shaping their company’s success. They not only have to convince people to buy their product or service like salespeople, but they also have to market their products or services in such a way that people want to buy them. This is where digital marketing tools come in.

Digital marketing personnel are expected to keep up with online trends and make changes on the fly, all the while competing with the tons of other digital marketers out there. Whether you are a marketer within your company or a specialized digital marketing firm like we are, you need the best digital marketing tools and resources to stay ahead of the curve.

We have improved a lot over the past few years and we have learned a lot more about digital marketing. This article is a big step up from the one about Tools Used by Startups. We wrote that in 2015 when we first got into digital marketing and there isn’t much to say about it. We wrote one as a content creation company last year in 2017 with 15 Necessary Online Content Creation Tools.

Our company has evolved to suit the dynamic world of today and we are now a full-fledged digital marketing agency. We decided to revamp that post and that is why our experts have compiled a list of fourteen categories of digital marketing tools and applications that digital marketers should be using if they aren’t already.

Digital Marketing Tools (1 – 7)

Here we go with part one of 14 amazing digital marketing tools you need to use.

1. Tools for Images

A good photo or picture will make your post look better and increase the probability that someone clicks or reads it. However, you do not want to get into legal trouble by stealing someone else’s photo. You have to remember that just because something is on the internet doesn’t make it okay for you to use it, especially if you are profiting from it.

Pixabay is a good database with hundreds of images on various topics for free use. Flickr is another website with stunning images, though not all images are freely licensed there. CC Search (Creative Commons Search) is another website through which you can look for images from other sites.

2. Content Creation Tools

Creating content is critical to a company. Your content needs to stand out from the pack. If you need a quick solution, there’s always Wordart and Clip Art

However, you need something grander. We have found a site, Canva, which is a free tool for graphic design. It is a great tool for creating both online as well as print media. You can develop visually stunning content in a variety of shapes and sizes with everything the way you want it to be.

This means that you can either build upon an existing template or start fresh and design one from scratch. There are an array of colors, fonts, and pictures to choose from, making it much better than Wordart or Clip Art. You can create vibrant images and designs which is great for a post, presentation, proposal, blog, or a quote.

Photoshop is a good tool if you wish to manipulate images. You can also try alternative sites such as GetStencil. The main goal is to craft professional and elegant designs. If you don’t know why content is important, check out 7 Reasons to Use Quality Content for Your Website.

3. Tools for Website Creation

You may have terrific Tweets and fantastic Facebook statuses, but if the website looks bad, not many people will bother. This is why as a digital marketer, you need to make sure your website looks attractive. Focus first and foremost on your website and make sure it is of good quality. Everything else comes later.

WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS). You can host your own website and build it up as you please, adding pages and content whenever you want. Downloadable plugins give you more options as well. Here are the Top 10 Plugins You Need to Install

Squarespace is another CMS upon which you can build your website, and Shopify is a good choice for e-commerce companies.

No matter what you choose, remember that your website is the most important marketing tool and you need to treat it as such. Website development is crucial and he who has the best site will prevail.

4. Email Tools

There are many email providers out there, but Gmail is one of the popular ones as it allows you to create a custom email when you sign up for GSuite. Others like Yahoo or Outlook are alright, but since Google offers a multitude of services like Docs, Sheets, and Drive, it makes sense to use it for your email as well. All hail our overlord Google!

You can also look at Zoho Mail which lets you share emails with members and groups. Of course, having multiple emails won’t hurt and can help keep you organized. Just make sure not to get them mixed up.

5. Tools for Email Marketing & Tracking

Email marketing could be viewed as a subset of email, but we consider the two to be different. Never underestimate the power that email wields. It is and always will be one of the most effective ways to advertise in the digital age. You have to be careful not to get caught by the censors though or everything will travel directly to the recipient’s Spam folder.

You want your mail to be read by as many people as possible, and there are many services for accomplishing this. MailChimp is an email marketing service for crafting, saving, and sending email templates. It has over eight million users and is perfect for email marketing campaigns.

So, you’ve sent the mail, but how do you know that someone has read it?

Don’t worry. There’s a solution for this, too. Mailtrack is an email tracking extension for Gmail and Inbox that lets you know if the emails you’ve sent have been read or not. It works for Chrome, Firefox, and Opera. Of course, this doesn’t guarantee sales, but at least you know that the person has seen your mail rather than deleting it right off the bat.

6. Tools for Notes

Note-taking is an important skill to have as a digital marketer and you don’t want to get caught out due to your lack of memory. A pen and paper are okay, but this means you have to carry these two around everywhere you go and if this sheet gets torn, stained, or lost, you’re in trouble. Notepad is the most basic of word documents and works for quickly storing and jotting down information.

However, Evernote may be the better choice as you can download the app on your smartphone and have information at your fingertips. This way you can take note of the important information without relying on a computer. You can just transfer the important points of a meeting to your phone. You carry the phone around with you everywhere anyway, and you can update and change the text when required.

7. To-Do List Tools

Simple pen and paper will suffice for this, but if you have a lengthy list or are worried about the list getting misplaced, then type up the list on your computer.

You can use Notepad for a basic list or Microsoft Word to add more detail to your lists or color code them. The best tool is Google Docs as you can share the document with co-workers and update it in real time. It also autosaves your work in case you forget to. You can try Zoho Writer if you want to get away from Google’s grasp.

All these word documents are mainly for writing content and proposals, so whatever you opt for, use it sparingly or the tool will lose its primary effect and end up confusing people even more.
